Hello and Welcome!
Here you can get to know me a little better, read about why I decided to start blogging and how my blog has evolved since 2014 :-)
I began blogging during the build up to a backpacking trip I spontaneously decided to take in 2014. I, like many people that decide to travel long term, had experienced a difficult year facing an unexpected bereavement alongside personal challenges with myself and my well being. I literally woke up one day and was sick of feeling unhappy so I booked a one way ticket to Australia and quit my job. I was living & partying the London lifestyle as a professional Make Up Artist which I’d worked really hard for after leaving school and managed to land my dream job working in the West End by the age of 20. This then progressed and I joined one of the biggest shows 6 months later – The Lion King.
My ‘travel genes’ obviously stem from my Dad because he’s always travelled around the world with his job for as long as I can remember and decided to settle in South Africa – my second home! Travelling the world has always been a dream of mine and with the words of encouragement from my Dad, this seemed like my opportunity to break free and do something that made me happy. I decided to start writing about my experiences as a female, solo traveller which is when Backpacking Han-Solo was born!
Since arriving home from my year of backpacking and new experiences, I have made a career change which has had a massive impact on my lifestyle and wellbeing – so much so in fact that I now help other people improve their wellbeing, fitness and lifestyle as a Personal Trainer. Fitness has always been a part of my life, I grew up as a sports girl and taught surfing whilst I was away travelling so I decided to study further and turn my passion into my job.
I’ll always continue to write about my travels, my explorations, my love of the ocean and my adrenaline junkie moments! But I also think that writing about the experiences that my travelling has led me too is something worth sharing :) Happy reading,
